Biography of Ahmed Musa

Musa plays as a forward and left winger for Turkish Süper Lig team Sivasspor and the Nigeria national football team, the Super Eagles.

Ahmed Musa became the first Nigerian to score in two FIFA World Cup competitions after scoring two times against Iceland in the group stages of the 2018 FIFA World Cup held in Russia and twice against Argentina in the 2014 FIFA World Cup held in Brazil.

Musa started his career at GBS Football Academy in Kaduna before he was loaned to JUTH F.C. in 2008. He played 18 games for JUTH, scoring four goals in his first two professional seasons for the Healers.

The winger was transferred to Dutch club VVV-Venlo in the summer of 2010. The move was stalled, however, because he was only 17 years of age and thus not eligible for a work permit in the Netherlands. He ended up playing 37 official games for them in two seasons, which earned him the AIT Footballer of the Year award on 8 March 2011.

The player signed for Russian side CSKA Moscow on 7 January 2012 for an undisclosed fee. Musa became a cult hero at the Russian club and his clout grew in the Nigeria national football team. CSKA Moscow offered him a new four-year contract on 1 June 2015. The contract was supposed to last until the 2018/19 season but Leicester City signed him on 8 July 2016 for £16.6 million, a club-record transfer fee at the time.

Musa scored his first goal with the club in a friendly against Barca in the 2016 International Champions Cup which they lost 4-2. However, his stint at Leicester did not go as planned for all parties and he returned to CSKA Moscow on 30 January 2018 to see out the remainder of the 2017/18 season.

From there, Ahmed Musa switched to Saudi Arabian side Al-Nassr on 4 August 2018 for a reported fee of £14.5 million. He is also a cult hero at the club and was one of their most recognisable players until Cristiano Ronaldo joined them in December 2022.

Musa returned to Nigeria in 2021 to play for Kano Pillars in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) before moving to Turkey to play for Fatih Karagümrük. From there, he moved to Sivasspor, where he currently plies his trade.

In April 2010, then-Super Eagles Coach Lars Lagerbäck called him up to join the national team camp prior to the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa. On 5 August 2010, Musa, at the age of 17, made his debut for the Super Eagles in a qualifier game for the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations against Madagascar, where he came on as a substitute for John Obi Mikel.

Musa found the back of the net for the first time for the Super Eagles in a friendly game against Kenya in March 2011. In April 2011, Ahmed Musa’s name was included in the under-20 Flying Eagles squad to represent Nigeria in the 2011 African Youth Championship qualifiers. After the opening match against defending champions Ghana, Musa won the most valuable player award.

After appearing in all of Nigeria's qualifying games, Musa was named in Stephen Keshi's team for the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

According to Kwesé ESPN, Ahmed Musa signed a four-year deal with Al-Nassr worth £14.8 million. He left the club after only two years, which meant that he earned around half of the total worth of the contract. That is the forward’s biggest payday on record. At Fatih Karagümrük, he earned $40,000 weekly which summed up to $2.5 million.

Ahmed Musa built himself a luxurious mansion in his native city of Jos, Plateau State where he grew up and received his education. This house is not the first for Ahmed Musa in Jos. A few years back, there was a not-so-pleasant incident involving the talented forward’s previous residence in his native land.

In 2013, Musa’s home was suddenly attacked by armed men who were in search of his family – Ahmed Musa's first wife and little son. Fortunately, no one was hurt. Musa then spent millions of dollars to construct a brand new mansion in Jos with more security features. The new mansion in Jos includes a swimming pool, a massive size football field with a synthetic pitch, a gym, as well as a mosque.

Ahmed Musa has been married thrice. Ahmed Musa's first wife was Jamila Musa with whom he had two beautiful children, Ahmed Musa Junior and Halima Musa.

Ahmed Musa’s first wife Jamila got him involved in a scandal when he played for Leicester City. The case involved the police, who arrested the forward. She accused him of domestic violence which he denied. Ahmed Musa’s first wife lost her place in the marriage as a result and he took another wife, Juliet Ejue.

Juliet and Ahmed were wedded in May 2017. In an interview, Ahmed said he does not regret his first marriage and hopes that the second will be even happier and long-lasting.

On 27 July 2018, Musa announced that he became a father for the third time when he posted a lovely photo of his newborn baby on his Instagram account. The baby, who is the first from the marriage between him and Juliet, was born in Velden, Austria. At the time of writing, Ahmed and Juliet have two children.

Ahmed Musa’s first wife Jamila and second wife Juliet are not the only women in his life, however. The Super Eagles skipper and most capped player, on Saturday, 10 July 2021, in a secret ceremony, got married to a second official wife, Mariam.

Ahmed Musa’s mother, Sarah Moses, single-handedly nurtured the Super Eagles star and her other four daughters after her husband’s death. She also tried to intervene when Ahmed Musa’s first wife, Jamila, had altercations with her son.

In 2017, Ahmed Musa's mother graced the unveiling of the ₦500 million sports fitness centre in the ancient city of Kano built by her son. At that event, Sarah Moses described Musa as a philanthropist who has touched so many lives with his wealth.

According to Sarah Moses, contrary to insinuations that the footballer hailed from Jos, Plateau state, “Ahmed Musa is actually from Maiduguri in Borno state. I am the second wife to the late father who died when he was seven years old.”

Ahmed Musa’s mother died on 24 January 2019. Sarah Moses’ death was announced by Musa on his Twitter page.
